Senior Portfolio Manager, Senior Wealth Advisor
Brian was one of five siblings, raised in Etobicoke, in a household that was a mixture of artists and business people. Although he was inclined to pursue his interest in music, he took the advice of those around him and enrolled in Engineering at the University of Toronto. As a graduate of Chemical Engineering, he worked in the food industry before returning to university and taking a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario. He followed that with a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
In the early nineties, a time of economic recession, Brian worked at a boutique restructuring firm, Stature Inc., completing restructurings and workouts for distressed companies. As the economy improved, Brian co-founded the Mergers and Acquisitions group at a mid-sized investment bank in Toronto. In the late 90s, Brian launched a wealth management firm specializing in unique investment strategies for high net worth individuals and institutions.
Brian and his business partner sold the company to a Canadian bank and Brian continued to build his wealth management practice in Canada. Brian’s unique stock picking approach and specialization in identifying undiscovered opportunities brought him to Wellington-Altus, a firm attracting like-minded, independent wealth managers intently focused on client success in all aspects of their financial lives.
Brian enjoys cottaging at his property in Muskoka, watersports, golfing, music, motorcycles, wines and improving his cooking skills. One of his favourite quotes by T.S. Elliott “We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time”.
Associate Investment Advisor, Branch Administrator
Sara was born in Baghdad, Iraq and was raised in a very large Assyrian-Middle Eastern extended family. As the Gulf War was coming to an end, Sara’s parents took their chance at a better life for their five children and immigrated to Canada. They worked hard to build a new life for their family in a new country, and through dedication and perseverance became successful entrepreneurs. Sara, along with her two brothers and two sisters, were raised to understand the meaning of hard work, the importance of education, and never giving up on your goals. All five children are now leading successful lives in fields of medicine, entrepreneurship, engineering and finance.
With a world of opportunities ahead, Sara attended The University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. While working weekends and summers at a bank she found her interest in finance and, after graduation, took a role as an Administrative Assistant for a young, growing brokerage team at a bank-owned firm. Sara completed all her industry courses to become an Investment Representative and was quickly known in the bank for her excellence and hard work.
Sara expanded her responsibilities and helped other investment teams build and grow their practices. She eventually spent time as a Senior Financial Advisor at a large bank before joining Wellington-Altus Private Wealth to work alongside Brian Schofield as Associate Investment Advisor. She is working towards becoming a Portfolio Manager.
Sara currently lives in Burlington with her 6-year-old daughter Catherine. She enjoys travelling abroad and experiencing new cultures. On her spare time, Sara loves to work out (mainly boxing) and spending time with her family. She also has a keen interest in fashion.
