Cresco Cares is excited to announce our charity for 2023, The Brenda Strafford Foundation’s Rec@home program!
COVID shone the spotlight on the alienation and isolation many of our seniors’ experience in the community. Recent studies found that:
- Social isolation significantly increased a person’s risk of premature death from all causes, a risk that may rival those of smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.1
- Social isolation was associated with about a 50% increased risk of dementia.1
- Poor social relationships (characterized by social isolation or loneliness) was associated with a 29% increased risk of heart disease and a 32% increased risk of stroke.1
- Loneliness was associated with higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide. 1
Rec@Home is a virtual recreation program that allows seniors and older adults (including those with disabilities or mobility challenges) to exercise their autonomy in choosing fun, active, accessible, and socially involved activities while in the comfort of their homes – and thus enabling them to remain in their homes longer. The program removes barriers to physical participation, and focuses on improving the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of our seniors. Individuals are empowered to connect and build community through virtual gatherings, shattering feelings of isolation and alienation.
The Brenda Strafford Foundation is a registered charity. Donations to Cresco’s fundraiser for Rec@home can be made here: http://weblink.donorperfect.com/RecAtHome
