The ambitions that had been meticulously mapped out over years\u00a0<strong>crumbled like sun-melted spring ice beneath their feet<\/strong>\u00a0and explorer Martin Frobisher led his humbled crew in the first Thanksgiving service ever conducted on North American soil\u2014before tucking tail and returning to England, never to return again in\u00a0<strong>defeat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 10.8pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 12.6pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">The Pilgrims and a Different Kind of Success<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Forty-three years later, the Pilgrims would hold their own Thanksgiving Day.<\/strong> Sandwiched between these events were the\u00a0<strong>Jamestown settlers<\/strong>, whose over-ambition for gold and personal fortune more closely matched the hubris of Frobisher&#8217;s colonizing efforts. Perhaps the Pilgrims&#8217; more humble and immediate focus on partnering with the Indigenous people and building community, rather than focusing on accumulating riches, is part of the lesson here.\u00a0<strong>Walk before you run<\/strong>\u2014if you will. But that\u2019s not our story today.\u00a0<strong>Our story is about being thankful in both good and bad circumstances.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 10.8pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 12.6pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">Canada\u2019s Economic Winter<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Canada is facing its own economic winter\u2014one of our own creation.<\/strong> Years of mounting debt, immigration policies that have outstripped the capacity of our healthcare system and housing markets, and persistent <strong>lack of investment in business capital\u00a0<\/strong>have placed us in a precarious position. Much like Frobisher\u2019s ambitious plans crumbled under the harsh Arctic conditions, the consequences of these policy decisions are beginning to show. Yet, just as Frobisher gave thanks in the face of disaster, we too can find reasons to be thankful even as we navigate these uncertain times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 10.8pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 0cm;line-height: 12.6pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;color: #555555\">Opportunity in the Midst of Challenge<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Opportunity exists in both good and bad times.<\/strong>\u00a0Frobisher, for all his overreach, had the good sense to retreat when faced with insurmountable odds. The Pilgrims, for their part, wisely partnered with the Indigenous people to ensure their survival.\u00a0<strong>Canadian investors must take a similar approach\u2014adapting to the challenges and finding opportunities, even when the landscape seems difficult.<\/strong> In uncertain times, it\u2019s crucial to remember that\u00a0<strong>no one is coming to save us<\/strong>. It\u2019s a clear reminder that even when broader conditions are unfavourable, there are pockets of opportunity for those who know where to look.
