For me, it’s a mixture of the nostalgia and architectural elegance that draws me in year after year. Of course, I love to visit family, but there’s something special about a city that boasts a special European feel. From amazing food to beautiful views, there’s a lot of exploring that can be done in the city, whether you’re there for a weekend or a couple of weeks! If you’re stopping into good ole’ YUL, here is an updated list of my favourite spots—old and new.

Jellyfish in Old Port

No trip to Montréal is complete without a visit to Old Port. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Jellyfish is a must, due to its amazing, modern atmosphere and incredible menu of fresh seafood. Are you a cocktail lover, too? If so, you’re in for a treat.

Clandestino

Speakeasy fans are bound to find a great drink or snack at Clandestino, a mezcal and tequila bar near Notre Dame Basilica. How would I describe it? Dark and vibey. If you have ever been to Prickett Richard in Calgary, you will be met with a familiar atmosphere, in only the best ways. It’s a nice “off the beaten path” spot!

Dorsia in Old Port

Does the name Dorsia ring a bell? If so, it’s likely because Patrick Bateman refers to Dorsia as an exclusive, high-end restaurant in American Psycho. Though he’s not referring to this exact Dorsia, the restaurant took inspiration from this pop culture reference to draw out established crowds. At this specific Old Port restaurant, you will find yourself tasting an expertly curated lunch, dinner and wine menu in a beautiful, elegant setting featuring marble and gold details (oh, and did I mention some amazing purple light fixtures?). Yes, please!

Belvu Terrasse

Located inside a beautiful hotel, Bellevu Terrasse is a peaceful oasis filled with lush greenery and an elegant selection of champagne by the glass. It’s a perfect spot for those who want to unwind, sip some bubbly and take in the Montréal sights. This patio is the perfect spot for a fresh offering—from cocktails to appetizers. Just take a look at their Instagram and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Muru Crepe

This one is a hidden gem! All I have to say is, when in Rome. 🤷🏻‍♀️In other words, when in Montréal, you must indulge in a crepe or two. This brunch place is a hole in the wall, but don’t let that deter you from trying out one of their flavourful crepes. I’m thinking about them just writing this.

Nacarat at The Queen Elizabeth Hotel

For a sophisticated bar experience, make sure you visit Bar Nacarat inside The Queen Elizabeth Hotel. This is a personal favourite! A true Montréal gem, Bar Nacarat provides a luxurious environment for you to enjoy an old fashioned, chat with a friend and settle into a new city.

Gibby’s in Old Port

At this point, I feel like this is turning into an “Old Port Guide” rather than a list of Montréal-wide favourites. This steakhouse has been around for decades, and it’s easy to see why. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, while the food is flavourful and satisfying. I just love the wooden beams that adorn the ceiling, as well as the old stone that tells a story.

Monarque

Monarque has a different feel from many of the other locations on this list. While the others are warm and quaint, Monarque is modern and sleek. It almost feels like it should be in the centre of a business district rather than the Old Port. Overall, the restaurant blends casual elegance with top-notch service and food. The menu features several dishes in various categories—pasta, seafood, meat and more.

I hope that you enjoyed this list of some of my favourite spots in Montréal! Make sure you earmark them for your next visit and DM me on my Wealth With Julie Instagram account if you have additional recommendations.

As many of you know, Montréal is my hometown, a place that I love to go back to a few times a year.
