I\u2019m not sure about you, but depending on my mood, my book preferences change. I\u2019ve been working on my own list of book finds, and I thought I would share some of my favourite reads from 2022 and the ones that have been recently suggested to me for 2023! For all of you A-types, I\u2019ve organized these books by categories so you can easily skip to the ones you want to peruse\u2026 you\u2019re welcome! If you read to the end, you\u2019ll get three bonus book recommendations from my good friend and my December F&amp;F feature woman, Kristin Colangelo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Books I Read and Learned Something<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/en-ca\/books\/product\/9781984825070-item.html?s_campaign=goo-PMaxSmartShop_Books_Hot_EN&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiA-oqdBhDfARIsAO0TrGG-icsPgLBC1wE4Y9tpL0OUVx8G7orWX5uLsJiaAB7n3G411gUgCroaAnfREALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\"><strong>Quit Like a Woman by Holly Whitaker<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is a fascinating read about the drinking culture, the process of quitting and the \u201csystem\u201d of AA. It dives into Alcoholics Anonymous and the author\u2019s belief that AA is a system that chastises one for being \u201cbad\u201d because of their drinking, when there\u2019s likely another reason behind it. Well, this book has one answer\u2014by focusing on the <em>good<\/em>. Supported by scientific evidence, Achor\u2019s book dives deep into this question and answer, equipping readers with the tools needed to achieve that coveted <em>happiness<\/em> we dream of. As a society, we have been conditioned that if we succeed, we will achieve happiness\u2026. But what if being happy could actually help us to succeed?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Books That Are Laugh Out Loud and Satisfying<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/dp\/1774580144\/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_W8HGXAWPTVJQKS1ACS8A?linkCode=ml1&amp;tag=ahid08-20\"><strong>Not That Likeable&#8230;and Other Stories I Told Myself by Amanda Hamilton<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not That Likeable is a fantastic book written by my good friend Amanda Hamilton.\u00a0 Between its pages, it chronicles her upbringing and what most people think but are too afraid to say\u2026 in all those cringy teenage moments. Most importantly, it illustrates the life lessons she has learned throughout it all. I haven\u2019t finished it yet, but I should soon because I can barely put it down!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-840 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/julieshipleystrickland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/80\/2023\/01\/Not-that-Likeable-257x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/julieshipleystrickland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/80\/2023\/01\/Not-that-Likeable-257x300.jpg 257w, https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/julieshipleystrickland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/80\/2023\/01\/Not-that-Likeable.jpg 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Books That Are Interesting and Stimulating (and Derived From What I Do)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/Dont-Leave-Mess-Disaster-Proof-Family\/dp\/1544536666\"><strong>Don\u2019t Leave a Mess by Sandy Pollack<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sandy worked with my father for years, and she is an incredible woman. Most recently, she has penned a book on how to prepare for when you pass so that you can leave a lasting legacy for those you love\u2014easily and without paying everything to the tax man. I haven\u2019t finished it, but it has examples and personal stories that keep this read light and informative\u2026 all while keeping more money in you and your family\u2019s pockets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/en-ca\/books\/product\/9781119893202-item.html?s_campaign=goo-PMaxSmartShop_Books_Hot_EN&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw79iaBhAJEiwAPYwoCH-pCuy0dB6v8GRcwkXWm1eNGyMNJH997QOIna3IoL874r7i7nx4TxoC4O8QAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\"><strong>The Canadian\u2019s Guide to Personal Finance for Singles by Bryan Borzykowski and Me!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, a book round-up wouldn\u2019t be complete without my own book! Finance for Singles is an easy read, has a touch of wit and gives you tangible tips for saving, investing and understanding how to manage debt. It\u2019s catered toward bereaved, divorced and chosen singles, but I\u2019ve received lots of great feedback from happily coupled-up readers showing that it speaks to singles and couples alike. If you manage your own finances and want a deeper dive into how to do so more efficiently, this is great for you!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kristin\u2019s Favourite Book Recommendations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/en-ca\/books\/product\/9781443459181-item.html?s_campaign=goo-PmaxSmartShop_Books_Promo_Bestsellers_EN&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiA-oqdBhDfARIsAO0TrGEJLp6zvqJppgomBBLEHvhGHjDDYwDkqtI4FbuOgBCXYwSpcc5T52QaAoGIEALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\"><strong>Five Little Indians by Michelle Good<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although this is a fictional book, the author does an incredible job of educating others about residential schools and the effects that they have had on generations. It follows the lives of five young adults as they grapple with life in Vancouver with no family, money, or support. An insightful yet devastating read.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/en-ca\/books\/product\/9781501161933-item.html?s_campaign=goo-PMaxSmartShop_Books_Hot_EN&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiA-oqdBhDfARIsAO0TrGFhOps67hKbgAJZ_Zqnzoz_nKwGPoXTsgfDMBU9evVjWg7UcLwW7SkaAuT-EALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\"><strong>The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins-Reid<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is one of Kristin\u2019s favourite reads, and she\u2019s not the only one, as this book topped bestseller lists everywhere. This is a light read about old Hollywood and former star, Evelyn Hugo. If you\u2019re looking for a book with themes of resiliency, survivorship, exploration and more, then you\u2019re gonna love this one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now that we have gotten our list up and running, it\u2019s time to get reading! Cue the cozy blanket, the hot cocoa, the crackling fire and the doggo on the lap.
