Percent Stocks Hitting New Lows:

  • High-Low Percent, shown in the three lower panes below, for the Large, Mid and Small cap indices, is a breadth indicator that measures the percentage of Net New Highs for a particular group of stocks, such as an index or ETF.
  • High-Low Percent equals Net New Highs divided by the total number of stocks in the group and is a key component of Schenk Wealth Management’s Primary Trend Indicator.
  • To confirm uptrend, we want to see this number exceed 10%, something it took until September to do in the SPX and only by November did we see expansion in Mid and Small companies.
  • If we are going to see a bear market or bad correction, we are going to see it in an expansion of new 52 week lows early on.
  • Even before a market correct we are first going to see it on the 20-day low lists (not shown here)… and right now there are NO alarm bells ringing.
