Despite a tough week given market performance, we are still having a good year.<br><br>\n\nThe TSX is negative for the year, we are positive year-to-date. I\u2019ve created the chart below (S&amp;P\/TSX Composite YTD) which shows where we stand in the correction. The initial correction we had only lasted\n10 trading days from January 26\u00a0to February 10\u00a0\u2013 markets corrected over 10%.\u00a0We earned a good amount back, but a 10-day correction after 500+ days to the upside is simply not enough. If you look below, we will almost surely test the checkered line bottom, and possibly test the firm red line.<br><br>\n<center><figure id=\"attachment_633\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-633\" src=\"https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/thestuchberrygroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2018\/05\/8fc5e784-d661-4f60-b733-a83fdb46076a.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 962px) 100vw, 962px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/thestuchberrygroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2018\/05\/8fc5e784-d661-4f60-b733-a83fdb46076a.jpg 962w, https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/thestuchberrygroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2018\/05\/8fc5e784-d661-4f60-b733-a83fdb46076a-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/thestuchberrygroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2018\/05\/8fc5e784-d661-4f60-b733-a83fdb46076a-768x507.jpg 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"962\" height=\"635\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Source: Bloomberg<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/center><br>\nWe are looking at purchases, not sales \u2013 however, we are not prepared buy anything just yet.\u00a0 We did sell our Loblaws in March and increased cash to the highest level in a few years \u2013 portfolios are more conservatively invested than in the previous January correction.\u00a0We will continue to buy companies with strong balance sheets, ensuring no mistakes are made during a rate rising cycle.<br><br>\n\nWhen you look longer term on the 10-year time horizon (below), I\u2019ve added a trend line to emphasize when the bull market broke out \u2013 we are not yet concerned about cracks in the secular bull market.
