The FHSA combines tax-deductible contributions (like an RRSP), tax-free growth on amounts in the FHSA, and tax-free withdrawals (like a TFSA) for the purchase of a first home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/advisor.wellington-altus.ca\/thewonggroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2023\/01\/Tax-free-first-home-savings-account-01.2023.pdf\">attached article<\/a> provides additional details and covers the following based on the current draft legislation:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li>What is an FHSA?<\/li>\n<li>Who can open an FHSA?<\/li>\n<li>Rules for making contributions to and withdrawals from an FHSA<\/li>\n<li>Closing or winding-up an FHSA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">FHSA contribution room ($8,000\/year) only starts accruing once the account is opened, so even if a home purchase is not in your or a family member\u2019s immediate plans, it is a good idea to start thinking about opening an FHSA.
