9. Dead cat bounce\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Animal lovers may wish to skip this one. A \u201cdead cat bounce\u201d is an especially morbid way to describe an investment\u2019s short-lived recovery. The term appears to date back to a 1985 quote from two Financial Times journalists describing the brief bounce-back of the Singaporean and Malaysian stock markets. It refers to the saying, \u201cEven a dead cat will bounce if it\u2019s dropped from high enough.\u201d Another term for this is a \u201csucker\u2019s rally,\u201d which most cats prefer.<\/p>\n
