FAQ

Have questions? You’re not alone. Find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below.

Choosing a financial advisor is about more than investment performance. It is important to consider the advisor’s experience, approach to financial planning and investment management, communication style, and how well they understand your personal circumstances and long-term goals.

At Black Financial Group, we believe a strong advisory relationship starts with understanding what matters to you. From there, we can develop an approach that reflects your objectives, time horizon, risk tolerance, income needs, and broader financial picture.

An independent wealth management environment can provide advisors with access to a broad range of investment solutions, rather than being limited to the proprietary investment products of a particular financial institution. This flexibility allows advisors to consider a wider range of solutions when building strategies for clients.

At Black Financial Group, we begin by understanding each client’s individual circumstances, objectives and priorities. We then consider appropriate investment and wealth-management solutions available through Wellington-Altus Private Wealth to meet their respective needs. Our objective is to build the strategy around the client rather than starting with a particular product.

We work with individuals and families across different stages of their financial lives and provide advice in areas such as investment management, retirement planning, wealth accumulation, income planning, tax-minimization strategies, estate planning, and broader wealth-management needs.

Client assets at Wellington-Altus Private Wealth are held in custody by National Bank Independent Network (NBIN), which is responsible for safeguarding client assets and providing custodial and back-office services.

Wellington-Altus Private Wealth is a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF), which provides limited protection for eligible client property in the event of member-firm insolvency, subject to applicable limits and conditions.

Investments are an important part of your financial picture, but they are only one component.

Financial planning can help connect your investments with broader goals such as retirement income, major purchases, family needs, tax considerations and estate objectives. It can also help identify whether your current investment strategy continues to align with where you want to go.

Yes. With your permission, we can collaborate with your accountant, lawyer and other professional advisors where appropriate.

For clients with more complex financial circumstances, coordinating among professionals can help provide a more connected approach to investment, tax, retirement and estate-planning considerations.

Our process begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand your current financial situation, existing investments, goals, priorities and concerns.

If we determine that working together is a good fit, our team will guide you through the account-opening and transfer process. Once your accounts are established, we work with  you on implementing the agreed-upon investment strategy and provide ongoing reviews and service as your needs evolve.

Portfolio reviews are an important part of an ongoing advisory relationship. The frequency and nature of reviews can depend on your individual circumstances and needs.

We also encourage clients to keep us informed when something significant changes in their life—such as retirement, a career change, inheritance, major purchase or change in family circumstances—so that we can consider whether their financial strategy should also be
revisited.

We work with individuals and families who are serious about their financial future and value an ongoing advisory relationship that considers their investment decisions within the context of their broader financial goals.

Whether you are building wealth, preparing for retirement, transitioning into retirement, receiving an inheritance, or simply looking for a more coordinated approach to your finances, our first step is to understand your situation and determine how we may be able to help.
