I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Calgary so much in the summer. The sun is out, the flowers are in full bloom and everyone’s in the mood for a patio day or park hang. We have an abundance of great patios here, so you have lots of options for your next day out. Here’s a guide to some of the best patios in Calgary that you should check out this season.
- Ten Foot Henry
Situated on 1st Street, Ten Foot Henry offers a stunning patio experience with downtown views, lush greenery and incredible food. Known for its vegetable-forward menu, this spot is always perfect—from brunch to dinner. Rated as one of the best restaurants in Calgary, you can’t go wrong with a trip to TFH, especially in the summer.
- Bonterra Trattoria
In the mood for Italian? Bonterra’s outdoor patio has been a favourite for many years due to its vine-covered pergola and rustic decor. Whether you’re stopping in for a date night or grabbing a drink with a girlfriend, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported out of Calgary. Count me in for fresh pasta and a good glass of wine—chilled is preferred with these temps!
- Barbarella Bar
Barbarella Bar is one of the newer additions to the Concorde Restaurant Group. In the centre of the city, you can find this big, metropolitan locale. They offer lots of shareable plates and great cocktails, and best of all, the people watching is 10/10 because you’re right in the heart of downtown.
- Earl’s Tin Palace
Always a classic, Earl’s Tin Palace in Mission is a nice place to spend your lunch hour or post-work catch-up. Surrounded by lush greenery and very close to the Elbow River, you can follow your visit up with a nice, warm walk down by the water. If it’s extra hot, you can even wade in the river for a little cool down.
- La Boulangerie
This is a little bit of a different patio, but what better way to start off the day than with a good coffee and a croissant? The patio at La Boulangerie in Mission reminds me of those beautiful French cafes that we’re all dreaming of these days. The friendly staff and cozy setting make it a favourite among locals.
- The Unicorn—4th Street
The Unicorn’s patio on 4th Street is an amazing summer spot for dog owners. All thanks to its pet-friendly policy, you can enjoy a meal or a drink without having to worry about how your pup is doing at home. Like Earl’s Tin Palace, you can always cap the night off with a walk by the river—that way, you get to indulge in a fun night out AND get your little companion out for their evening walk.
- Craft Beer Market—10th Avenue
For those looking for more bustling nighttime vibes and a lively crowd, Craft Beer Market on 10th Avenue is a go-to. Their rooftop patio is fairly large, meaning you can stop by with a bit of a bigger group. With over 100 beers on tap and a menu full of elevated bar food, Craft allows you to have a snack, play some games and catch up with your friends.
- Veranda at the Stables
Veranda at the Stables is a patio spot located at Currie Barracks. A collaboration between Burwood Distillery and Vaycay Brewing Co, Veranda is a quiet spot where you can spend your summer days and nights. Never been? Check it out this weekend!
