R. Matthew Lauer

Portfolio Manager & Wealth Advisor

R. Matthew Lauer works with a select group of very-high-net-worth families, typically founders, executives, and business owners navigating increasing complexity across their financial lives. His work centres on long-term stewardship, sound judgment, and continuity across generations.

With more than a decade of experience in wealth management, Matthew takes a top-down approach to advising families, beginning with their broader financial circumstances before determining how individual strategies and investments should fit within them. He coordinates estate, tax, family governance, philanthropic, and credit considerations, alongside internal specialists and external professionals in accounting, consulting, and law.

As a Portfolio Manager and having his Chartered Investment Manager designation, Matthew exercises discretionary authority over multi-asset portfolios, with responsibility for asset allocation, strategy selection, and ongoing due diligence across public and private markets. His investment philosophy emphasizes diversification, adaptability, and understanding the role each allocation is intended to play within the portfolio as a whole.

Matthew is known for his disciplined and measured approach to decision-making, particularly during periods of uncertainty or transition. He strives to provide families with a consistent perspective across both their investments and their broader financial lives.

Christopher J. Lauer

Investment Advisor

Christopher J. Lauer brings institutional investment experience to Lauer Brothers Private Wealth, with a background in trading, investment research, and fundamental security analysis.

He began his career in global markets at a leading Canadian financial institution, gaining experience across Institutional Equity Sales, Institutional Fixed Income Sales, and Cross-Asset Proprietary Trading. As part of the proprietary trading team, Christopher participated in deploying the firm’s balance sheet capital to generate investment returns across markets, developing a practical understanding of risk, liquidity, market structure, and the interaction between asset classes.

He subsequently moved into institutional equity research, where he covered companies within the power and utilities sector, contributed to fundamental investment analysis, and represented the firm’s investment views to institutional investors. This experience strengthened a bottom-up investment discipline grounded in understanding businesses, industry structure, valuation, and the underlying drivers of long-term returns.

Christopher brings this security-level perspective to portfolio construction, complementing a broader top-down investment framework with rigorous fundamental analysis. His approach focuses on understanding what sits beneath an allocation: the businesses, securities, and strategies ultimately responsible for generating investment outcomes.

Alex Yoon

Associate

Alex Yoon supports Lauer Brothers Private Wealth across business development, client engagement, and the continued growth of the practice.

His experience includes business development within a leading Canadian financial institution, as well as work in smaller entrepreneurial businesses, giving him exposure to both a large-scale financial organization and the day-to-day realities of owner-operated enterprises. Working closely with entrepreneurs and business owners has given Alex an appreciation for the demands placed on their time and capital, as well as the importance of building relationships based on an understanding of the business itself rather than a single financial need.

Alex has complemented this practical experience through commerce studies at the University of Toronto, developing a foundation across business, finance, and organizational decision-making.

Alex helps support relationship development, prospective client engagement, and the organizational coordination required to deliver a high-touch client experience. His entrepreneurial mindset and business development background are particularly relevant to a practice focused on founders, executives, and business-owning families.
