Following an initial consultation and mutual agreement that we are a good fit to work together, we begin the formal process of establishing our investment relationship with you and your family. We will review the financial and personal information you provide to us in order to prepare recommendations for your investments as well as any other wealth management issues we identify. During this time, your investment accounts will be established and assets will be transferred in.
We will draft an Investment Policy Statement (IPS). This is a written contract that specifies how your money will be invested. Consider this a “business plan” against which our strategy will be implemented and our performance will be evaluated.
Despite the fact that there is a lot of work going on in the background, we make every effort to make this transition as seamless and convenient for you as possible.
Our clients are high net worth individuals and families from all over Canada. While they come from all walks of life, one thing they all have in common is a mindset: they have wealth that they want to protect and grow while not exposing themselves to undue risk. They want safe and secure investment management and recognize the importance of a professional investment team in achieving this goal. Many of our clients also benefit from our wealth management services, which assist them in better organizing and optimizing their financial affairs. As we provide specialized services for successful entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals, many of our clients are or have been business owners.
The financial services industry in Canada is a highly regulated industry. We strictly adhere to and frequently exceed industry standards. Your money is always invested “in trust,” which means it belongs to you and only you. We simply make recommendations, assist with strategy implementation, and then manage your account. Regardless of your holdings, only you or those you legally designate can deposit or withdraw funds from your investment account. Your investment holdings are carefully selected to match your personal profile. Your account is then carefully monitored and reviewed on a regular basis with you. You can access your statement online at any time and will receive regular statements either in physical or electronic form.
National Bank Independent Network (NBIN), a division of National Bank of Canada, ensures the safe custody of all assets and performs our back-office services.
It depends on how frequently you want to hear from us. We will meet based on your preferences and level of comfort. There is no set service formula that you must follow. Some clients are extremely active or have issues that necessitate more contact. We could call them every other week, for example. Others prefer less frequent contact, meeting only once or twice a year to review plan progress.
We will keep in touch with you via email on a regular basis, and we will publish regular communications for clients who want to stay up to date on our investment activities and wealth management ideas. The amount of contact we have will vary over the course of our investment relationship, depending on what is going on in your life, your business, or the capital markets at any given time. We can adjust the level of communication together by keeping the lines of communication open.
We charge a fee for the investment management services we offer, rather than ‘commissions’ or ‘loads’ based on transactions. Our fees are calculated as a percentage of the investments you have entrusted to us. As a result, we are more aligned with you and your interests because we have no additional incentive to trade or transact, but rather to protect and grow your investments. Our wealth management services are also included in our investment management fees – extra value for your money.
Your money will be invested in accordance with a written Investment Policy Statement (IPS) that specifies your timeline, expected returns, risk tolerance, and so on. We will prepare the IPS based on the personal and financial information you provide us, and it will be tailored to your specific needs.
Our services are intended for individuals with a minimum of $500,000 in investable assets. We have a team of professionals and associates to meet the needs of almost any client, but we interview clients in the same way that you interview potential advisors. We value our service model and our commitment to our existing clients, so we will decide together if there is a good fit based on capacity and needs.
