Executive Vice-President & Senior Portfolio Manager
Vice-Chair, Wellington-Altus Private Wealth Advisory Board
I take responsibility for the operations of our family office, as well as the lead for portfolio allocation decisions, and oversight and direction of our quantitative investment management platform. The largest and most enjoyable part of my role is really getting to know our families, and helping create a platform that accomplishes whatever unique outcomes each family is trying to achieve. I am proud of the family office our team has built for the benefit of the families that we serve, and I am incredibly grateful for the amazing group of individuals I have the benefit of working with day-in and day-out.
I am a native Calgarian, and still live in the same neighbourhood I grew up in. I am married with a son and a daughter, both in their latter teenage years. I have too many things I enjoy doing and not enough time to do them, including skiing, golf, fitness, cooking, shooting, fishing, reading, and being outdoors. Neat fact, I am a third generation Calgarian, my grandfather was born in Calgary after his parents immigrated from Scotland after the first world war.
Executive Vice-President, Senior Wealth Advisor & Associate Portfolio Manager
Managing Director, Wellington-Altus Private Wealth Advisory Board
My role on the team is to work exclusively for our families. I want to get to know them, and to be able to have a discussion around ideas we both have on ways to save tax, protect capital, and ultimately to ensure a smooth transition of wealth to subsequent generations. Once we have an idea, I personally ensure it is implemented, and then monitored over the years to be certain this structure still fits with legislation and the family dynamics, as both change.
I am from Swift Current and moved to Calgary in 1997 to article with Ernst & Young, and subsequently earned my Chartered Accounting designation. My dad was a private business owner and my mom a nurse, so I was “fortunate” to hear about risk, government spending, and ultimately hard work from a really young age. This propelled me into wanting to learn more about tax and what our governments do with this scarce resource – and specifically if it is possible to keep more in your pocket to spend how you want versus how a higher power chooses.
I’m married to another Chartered Accountant, we have 3 kids, and we love to downhill ski, golf and try new restaurants where we can find the time to be together! I love what I do, and hope I can continue to be in this industry for another 20 years.
I am tasked with developing relationships in Calgary that would be a good fit for what we do, as well as on a personal level. I am an experienced executive in the corporate community, which allows me the ability to educate families about the differences between a family office and a traditional wealth management practice, and why West Oak Family Office may be a good fit for them and their family.
I am married with two daughters, and we love spending time outdoors together.
Associate Portfolio Manager
My role on the team is investment and portfolio analyst. I am responsible for managing our proprietary quantitative investment models along with portfolio implementation and execution. I assist in asset allocation decisions and am tasked with ensuring portfolio allocations continue to optimize returns while mitigating risk. I love creating projections and analysis models in Excel, and enjoy the evolving challenge to improve and enhance our practices and methodologies.
I am analytical in everything I do and am an avid reader of self-improvement books and health information. After travelling across the country, I settled in Calgary with my spouse 23 years ago. I play on and manage a women’s touch football team, love to travel, work out and eat deserts!
Associate Investment Advisor
My role on the team involves a number of facets including managing client relationships, supporting Andrew and Carol on portfolio management and implementation as well as some administrative matters. My passion for capital markets began when I was quite young and learned about the concept of compounding returns over time. I love being part of a family office since it allows me to really get to know the families we work with to create tailored advice and solutions, and then execute on those plans.
Outside of work, my fiancé and I really enjoy being active and spending time in the mountains, as well as learning about wine. My free time is mostly spent kickboxing, skiing, hiking, golfing or running/walking with our dog.
My main role with the team is the administration of the structures and strategies we put in place for our families and ensuring they are managed and executed properly. I am often the first person the families that I work closely with call with questions, and what I enjoy most are the relationships we have developed over the years. I also enjoy getting to know the younger generations and seeing our families grow, and helping manage the evolution that comes with that.
I was born and raised on a farm in central Alberta and have always enjoyed being outside. My husband and I like to spend our summers camping and our winters snow shoeing and ice fishing.
I have been in the investment industry since 1997. I take great pride in building, servicing and managing family relationships, and I am a resource to our families for whatever needs they might have, however small or large. The evolution of wealth management, along with the tax and legal landscape, keeps me very engaged and I find it extremely rewarding. I am proud to take an active role in our practice and our families financial lives.
My husband and I have a son and daughter that are very active in sports. Both of our kids play lacrosse, so I’ve been passionately involved in the lacrosse community which includes volunteering as a director for one of Calgary’s Minor Lacrosse Associations. Outside of sports, I enjoy spending quality time with my family including our dog Ellie.
I have supported wealth management practices for over 20 years, and that experience has led me to be able to play a pivotal role within our family office. What I love about being at a family office is that every day is different and each family has their own set of unique needs that I get to help navigate. I enjoy facilitating and cultivating relationships and being that go to in any manner our families deem necessary.
In my personal time, I enjoy yoga with girlfriends, camping, hikes with the family and snowshoeing in the winter. My husband and I have 2 teenage daughters and our dog, Charlie.
I just recently joined West Oak Family office after having just graduated from the University of British Colombia Okanagan, where I earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in finance. In university I was involved in a number of student initiatives, clubs, and organizations, and am currently a peer mentor for continuing post-secondary students. In my spare time you can find me studying industry courses or watching baseball with my family.
