Nvidia and Artificial Intelligence:
- Nvidia once again exceeded expectations, reporting strong revenue growth and providing guidance that points to continued demand for AI infrastructure.
- Demand remains so strong that supply constraints continue to be a factor, reinforcing the view that businesses are still investing heavily in AI technologies and data centre expansion.
- Growth is becoming more broad-based, with demand extending beyond the largest technology companies and into a wider range of industries.
Canadian Bank Earnings:
- Canada’s six largest banks reported better-than-expected earnings, supported by strong capital markets activity, fee revenue, and a resilient credit environment.
- While fundamentals remain solid, valuations have become more stretched and dividend yields have declined from historical averages, prompting investors to remain selective.
- We continue to monitor loan loss reserves, economic growth, energy prices, and trade-related developments that could affect business activity and consumer spending over the coming quarters.
Economic Outlook:
- Canada’s economy has remained resilient, with positive GDP growth and improving economic momentum but risks remain, including higher energy prices and the renewed tariff and trade talks uncertainty, in particular.
